We are hiring a Software Architect for a large consumer digital platform that delivers live and on demand content to millions of concurrent users across multiple markets. You will define and drive the architecture of high scale, cloud native backend systems built on Java, Node.js, Python and AWS, and design the event driven microservices that keep the platform resilient under sudden, extreme concurrency peaks. You will also partner with data and data science teams to design clean integration patterns for AI capabilities such as personalisation, recommendations and smart search.

POSITION SNAPSHOT

• Role: Software Architect (Backend, Cloud and Distributed Systems)

• Experience: 10+ years overall, with 3 to 4 years in a Software Architect or Principal Engineer role

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Architectural leadership: define and document the architecture vision, guidelines and technology roadmap for core platform services, aligned to global business objectives

• System design and integration: design distributed, event driven and highly resilient microservices using Java, Node.js and Python

• Cloud architecture on AWS: architect secure, scalable and cost efficient cloud native systems, and set best practices for cloud native deployment, multi region failover and disaster recovery

• AI and data integration: work with data science and AI specialists to architect APIs, pipelines and integration points that embed personalisation, recommendation engines and GenAI search into the core user experience

• Technical governance: establish and enforce engineering standards, design patterns and best practices across development teams, and run architecture reviews and threat modelling

• Performance and scalability: optimise end to end platform performance for massive concurrent traffic spikes during peak usage windows

• Mentorship and collaboration: mentor senior developers and tech leads and build a culture of innovation, continuous learning and technical excellence

REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, with 3 to 4 years in a dedicated Software Architect or Principal Engineer role

• Java: Spring Boot, microservices patterns, JVM tuning

• Node.js: TypeScript, asynchronous programming, lightweight API gateways

• Python: FastAPI or Flask, data processing pipelines, scripting and automation

• AWS compute and serverless: EC2, ECS or EKS, Lambda

• AWS database and storage: DynamoDB, RDS, Aurora, S3, ElastiCache or Redis

• AWS integration and messaging: SQS, SNS, Kinesis, EventBridge, Kafka

• AWS networking and security: VPC, IAM, CloudFront, Route 53, API Gateway

• Architecture patterns: microservices, Event Driven Architecture (EDA), Domain Driven Design (DDD), RESTful and GraphQL API design

• CI/CD and DevOps: Jenkins or GitHub Actions, Infrastructure as Code with Terraform or AWS CDK, containerisation with Docker and Kubernetes

PREFERRED / BONUS SKILLS

• Practical understanding of integrating application backends with AI and ML systems

• Familiarity with AWS Bedrock or SageMaker endpoints and vector databases such as pgvector or OpenSearch

• Experience applying personalisation models, recommendation algorithms or retrieval augmented generation (RAG) at scale

• AWS Certified Solutions Architect Professional or equivalent certification

PREFERRED INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE

• Large consumer internet, OTT, streaming, gaming, e commerce or fintech platforms

• Any product where millions of users can arrive within the same few minutes and the system has to hold

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

An architect who has already carried a high concurrency consumer platform end to end: someone who can hold the whole system in their head, write the design document, defend it in review, and then sit with the team that builds it. If you have scaled backend systems where traffic arrives in sudden waves rather than a steady curve, this role will feel familiar.
